    2016 CSEP Awards

    Abstract and Student Awards

    Deadline: Abstract and supporting documentation (refer to Terms of Reference for each award) must submitted by June 20, 2016.

    CSEP Graduate Student Awards (open to CSEP registered Graduate Student members*):

    Abstract - Graduate Student Award - (15 minute) Oral Presentation Abstracts accepted for presentation, but not selected as a finalist for the award will be scheduled into a General Free Communications timeslot 

    Abstract - Graduate Student Award - Poster Presentation MSc Abstracts accepted for presentation, but not selected as a finalist for the award will be scheduled into a General Posters timeslot

    CSEP Young Investigator Award

    YIA_Form2016The CSEP Young Investigator Award (YIA) is presented annually to an outstanding CSEP member who received the PhD or MD degree within the past 10 years. Any parental leave(s) taken since receiving their degree will not count towards the time limit. The individual must be acknowledged to have an excellent reputation throughout Canada and to have achieved notable international recognition. Candidates shall have demonstrated evidence of a sustainable program of research funding beyond the first grant cycle, publications in peer-reviewed journals that establish the candidate as an independent scientist, and evidence of training of highly qualified personnel. The candidate must be a CSEP member at the time of nomination.  

    Nomination Procedure
    Any member of CSEP may submit nominations on behalf of the applicant. A complete nomination will consist of the following:

    1. Completion of an official Nomination Form which includes:
      a. the nominator’s contact information;
      b. the nominee’s contact information;
      c. information regarding when and where the PhD or MD was obtained;
      d. a list of up to four sample publications and brief comment on the significance of each;
    2. A maximum two-page (~600 word) letter in support of the candidate’s nomination.  
    3. A copy of the candidate’s curriculum vitae using the “Common CV” format.
    4. One copy of each sample publication referenced on the Nomination Form.

    Nominees who are not selected automatically remain in the pool for an additional year (if they agree);

    Re-nominations (within a three-year period) may be submitted in the form of an update to the original submission, as long as the nominee continues to meet the award eligibilty criteria.


    Format of the Award
    The award recipient will be expected to give a 30-minute presentation based on his/her research on the first night of the AGM. The recipient will receive a framed citation, complimentary registration, an honorarium and reimbursement of his/her expenses to attend the conference.

    CSEP/SCPE Honour Award

    The purpose of the CSEP Honour Award is to annually honour an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to exercise physiology (encompassing physical activity, fitness, health and human performance) in Canada.

    While such a contribution could have been made through either traditional scientific endeavours (resech and scholarship) or through exceptional service to CSEP or similar association or agency, the award will normally be granted for a contribution to science, and only under exceptional circumstances will it be awarded for administrative service.

    Eligibility
    The recipient normally will be a Canadian who has made his/her contribution in Canada in exercise physiology (encompassing physical activity, fitness, health and human performance).

    Nominations
    Nominations for the Honour Award are open to any CSEP member. The nomination should be in the form of a letter signed by the member and should include a brief rationale in support of the individual nominated. Letters can be faxed, emailed or mailed to the CSEP office prior to June 30, 2015.

    Nominees who are not selected automatically remain in the pool for an additional year.

    Re-nominations (within a three-year period) may be submitted in the form of an update to the original submission.

    Format of the Award
    The recipient shall receive a $2,000 monetary award and a citation suitable for framing. The award shall be presented at the AGM.

    CSEP Professional Standards Program Recognition Award

    The purpose of the CSEP Professional Standards Program Recognition Award is to annually honour an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Professional Standards Program of CSEP. The Award recognizes contributions such as, but not limited t committee work, leadership, development and delivery of certifications, and practice and/or research in the health and fitness industry.

    Eligibility
    The recipient will be an active CSEP certified member (CSEP-CPT or CSEP-CEP) during the membership year preceding the award, in good standing and has made a significant contribution to the advancement of the health and fitness Professional Standards in Canada. Nominées may be either nominated by a fellow member or self-nominate.

    Nominations are submitted to the CSEP office by June 30 and should include a a letter of support with a brief rationale supporting the nomination a brief biography and CV.

    Nominees who are not selected automatically remain in the pool for one additional year; re-nominations (within a three-year period) may be submitted in the form of an update to the original submission.

    Format of the Award
    The award recipient shall receive a citation and a $500 honorarium. The award shall be pesented at the CSEP AGM.
